A Samsung flagship device ‘Galaxy S’ has had another title, the official WCG(World Cyber Games) 2010 phone. Samsung announced the official kick-off of the third-annual WCG 2010 Samsung Mobile Challenge (SMC), with this year’s official mobile phone, the Galaxy S. The world’s greatest mobile gamers will again get the chance to win total $25,000 in cash and prizes, bragging rights and a spot at the WCG 2010 Grand Final.

The phone will be used for the Asphalt 5 which is a brand new mobile racing game.

“Asphalt 5,”  the WCG 2010 Official Mobile Game title is a racing game which features more than 30 vehicles from prestigious manufacturers such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Audi, Ducati, racing in 12 unique locations, including St. Tropez, Aspen and Las Vegas, with varied track surfaces, short cuts and spectacular jumps.

To participate, gamers will need to have the official challenge phones, Samsung  Galaxy S  (Please, check other available phones in your country at http://mobile.wcg.com), log on to Samsung Apps (Samsung application store) , and download the official mobile game title Asphalt 5.  After playing, participants will send their game scores to the ranking system for a chance to attend the upcoming World Cyber Games Grand Finals from September 30^th – October 3^rd, 2010 and compete to win over $10,000 and other prizes.

When I finally got my hands on the Windows Phone developer tools the first thing I wanted to do was to see how well Silverlight on the phone would work for making 2D games, so I decided to make a Labyrinth style game.

This Labyrinth style game was developed with Silverlight and is tested using the Windows Phone 7 Series emulator. The developer had used mouse dragging to replace actions from accelerometer.

While its just images, this app gives us a glimpse of how thing may be developed for the Windows Phone 7 Series using Silverlight.

Tower Defense is a popular strategic game that has grow in popularity since it was first introduced on the Internet. The basic idea of the game is to build defensive weapons to prevent a certain number of enemies to bypass the land.

This is definitely a first for Windows Mobile, and with a screen like the one you get on Samsung Omnia II, it would be a waste not to use it. You may purchase the game from Handango for $14.99.

The Samsung Omnia II was demoed as a Wii-Like game controller at CES last week. Through the Wi-Fi connection, the Omnia II can then be connected to Samsung HDTV. These game applications will come bundled with the Samsung TVs.

Here is part of the related press release by Samsung during CES:

Samsung Apps provides consumers with an expanded, easy-to-navigate selection of content and applications from leading content providers and services – all driven by the new, faster and more flexible Samsung platform. Applications can be downloaded and viewed all while watching TV. The first batch of TV apps will launch in the spring free of charge, while premium apps will be available for purchase via the platform’s transactional interface in the summer of 2010.

so basically you are using the devices to control. It’s like like a game controller but you’re using the Samsung phone… Yes, it’s an application.

With the release of its own Application store, Samsung is building its own ecosystem of devices and applications that supports one another. It seems like Samsung is moving into an era of application. Everything it works on is capable of carrying application.

CountOnMe is developed by bbonzz from XDA who have also create a list of other fun and (according to him) useless applications for your Windows Mobile device.

CountOnMe is basically a counter that you may find at your local administration offices where you will need to get a number and wait for your turn. It’s a fun idea to use the application on an individual level. I can’t imagine someone to be so busy that she or he will need their own queue counter.

Here’s CountOnMe, it a turn-o-matic simulation with different counters. The idea is that, when someone is hassling you (maybe your boss…), you put out your device, and without a word invite him to wait his turn

Rumors are just that, rumors. But this is a rumor that should spike the interest on Windows Mobile devices. According to some recent job posting by Microsoft, it seems to imply that the software giant is ready to integrate Xbox Live’s online gaming platform with Windows Mobile.

Below is an excerpt from the job posting which was surprising explicit in expressing the consolidation of the two services:

We need a Principlal Program Manager who can help drive the platform and bring Xbox LIVE enabled games to Windows Mobile

This could be an indication for future releases of Windows Mobile to compete with iPhone’s gaming capabilities. Ah, the possibility that this could be. It is unclear whether this integration will occur in what version of Windows Mobile, with the logical option being Windows Mobile 7, expected to be released by the end of next year.

It seems Microsoft is trying all its might to stuff goodies into its mobile devices, which ultimately should be seen as beneficial for users like you and me.

Samsung unveiled its own platform bada as well as its affiliate applications on the event.

Samsung will have a Bada application store, which would allow even non-registered users to buy applications and app payments with the mobile phone bill. With the launch of the first Bada phone, the Samsung application store will be expanded to cover up to 50 countries. The second half of 2010 shouild see the store expand worldwide.

TicTacToe is a game that everyone should know how to play. If you have a couple of minutes in hand while waiting for bus or elevator, just pull out the seconds-long game and bring your O or X to victory.

In all honesty, the game may look crude. But if you are just looking for a basic functional TicTacToe game, this may be a good quick game to past your time by. I do like this note by the developer, where he said:

OldDialer is basically an interface of a rotary phone where you can actually make calls. It’s more of a toy than an actual dialer. You may however still dial from OldDialer. To dial, rotate the hole above the number to right at the metal part right next to 0.

When you finally get the right set of number, press “Call” will actually dial and make the call for you. The difficult part is to get the right combination of numbers.

Ever get in a situation when you need to flip a coin but don’t have one on you? Now you can always have a virtual coin that will help you decide what to do. Shake the phone in the same manner you would flip a coin and watch the action. Completely random heads or tails. Also see what happens if you flip the phone upside down and look from the underside.

Its a simple app that gives you a virtual coin, the app requires .NET CF3.5 (get it here) to work and will function on device with an accelerometer. To toss the coin just flick the phone towards or away from you, flicking it left and right had no effect on the virtual coin.

Sudoku on a mobile called Sudoku Mobile, simple as that. No catch or attempts to be cool, just plainly simple and frankly, memorable. I can’t wait to share the application with any Sudoku fans out there who just happen to own a Windows Mobile device. The multi-level application saves you the pencil leads, erasers or notepads. You can easily ‘flag’ or input applicable numbers, or use Reset, Check or Solve feature when you get stucked.

Once you’re installed and ready to go, go to Games to launch the application.

How to play the game:

1. Choose Level of Difficulty (Easy to Hard)
2. Click Start to start a pre-installed version or Enter own to create your own (doesn’t fit well on an Omnia’s 400×240 resolution)
3. Fill up the grey boxes correctly to win/complete (Rules)
4. To flag a box with numbers: select the grey box and then check the checkboxes below the numbers to flag possible number for that box
5. To input a number in a box: select the grey box and then the number box (which will turn red as an indicator)
6. Once you are done, click on Finish which will either congratulate you or let you know you have failed to complete

Condemnation aside, it is a really easy and possibly addictive game to take with you whenever you go. You can even change the theme between Light and Bright depending on your color preference.

I can totally see myself sitting with Sudoku Mobile on flights, bus rides or even God-forbid, the restroom. Give it a try on your device (resolution-specific) and see if you like it!

Gaming has always been a part of cellphone development. It is usually the first thing a person look for when checking out a friend’s phone. Windows Mobile devices, certainly have an advantage with the potential to load all kinds of games. 5×5 is a simple yet challenging game to win. Your goal is to click on the 5-by-5 squares and to turn all the squares black.

There is a game on the iPhone called Lights Out where the object of the game is to light up or knock out all the lights in a 5×5 grid. When a square is selected that square and its four immediate neighbours, above, below, and to each side invert. There is no wraparound. The object of the game is to get all the squares black.
