At this week’s Game Developers Conference 2010, Microsoft unveiled XNA Game Studio 4.0, a tool to aid developers in developing high-quality games with Xbox LIVE features.

Windows Phone 7 has been grabbing headlines since it was first announced and demonstrated at the Mobile World Congress 2010. Windows Mobile 6.5, while just a interim mobile platform has been grabbing market shares in Latin America.

To deliver what developers expect in the developer platform we’ve had to change how phone apps were written. One result of this is previous Windows mobile applications will not run on Windows Phone 7 Series.

The continuation of Windows Mobile 6, Windows Phone Classic, will have an extra low-end version kept alive for the developing world, a Microsoft spokesperson confirmed today.

The interim platform seem to have a short lifespan of just a little over a year since first launched late last year. Microsoft have crushed any remaining hope of upgrade from Windows Mobile 6.5.

The Race to Market Challenge launched last year has finally produced a pair of winners – Meon Lite by Manbolo and SPB Mobile Shell by SPB Software. Both developing firm will each receive a Microsoft Surface table (valued at around $20,000) amidst other prizes.

Adobe has stated that Flash 10.1 will not be supported on Windows Mobile 6.5 due to the lack of support for some of the critical APIs required, suggesting that support for the Microsoft’s mobile OS will have to wait till Windows Phone 7’s release.

In what looks like a move towards preparation for Windows Phone 7 Series, Skype, has shutdown the availability of its mobile client for Windows Mobile Classics (any version prior to Windows Phone 7), just a year since it was first introduced. Here is a quote from the announcement:
