How To: Update your Samsung AT&T Galaxy Note to Android 4.0 ICS

We recently previewed some of our favorite features in the Android 4.0 ICS update for the Samsung Galaxy Note, and now you can finally get the official release now! Simply follow the steps below and you too will have the latest software for the Galaxy Note.

The ICS update is a bit hefty on the data size, so you unfortunately will not be able to receive the update over the air (OTA). Rather, you will have to fire up Samsung’s proprietary Kies phone-PC interfacing software. If you don’t have it yet, step 1 is to:

Step 2: Next, making sure you meet the following system requirements, proceed to step 3.

  • Windows Operating System
    • Microsoft® Windows XP, Vista, & 7
    • Processor: Intel Core Duo 2GHz
    • Memory (RAM): 1GB Free
    • Hard Drive Space: At least 500MB
    • Screen Resolution: 1024 x 768
    • Required software: Windows Media Player 10, .Net Framework 3.5 SP1, DirectX 9c, Adobe Flash Player
  • MacOS
    • OSX 10.5 to 10.7
    • Processor: 1.8GHz
    • Memory (RAM): 512MB Free
    • Hard Drive Space: At least 100MB
    • Sufficiently Charged Battery

Note: The Kies software will prompt you when the battery is not at a adequate level. It is highly recommended to have a fully charged battery before starting the upgrade.

  • USB Data Cable (Included In Retail Box)

    Note: This is the same cable used to charge your device.

Step 3: Once your download is complete, install and launch Kies–from here Kies will automatically update to the latest version:

After you follow the steps to update Kies to the latest ersion, it will close and relaunch itself. Now we can proceed to the device update.

Step 4: Connect your Galaxy Note with the USB cable and wait for your device to be recognized in Kies:

Once your device is recognized, Kies will automatically prompt you to update your device:

Hit ‘Update!’

Step 5. Read the cautionary text and select whether or not you want Samsung to store your information for future troubleshooting purposes.

Making sure you have backed up your data, charged your phone and taken measures to prevent the update from being interrupted, select ‘Start upgrade.’

Step 6. Kies will now begin downloading the firmware update:

Step 7. Kies will begin uploading the update files to your Galaxy Note:

Step 8. Once the upgrade process completes, you will be greeted with a successful completion window:

Now you can disconnect your device and start using Android 4.0 in your Galaxy Note. Don’t forget to check out our article outlining our favorite new features!

    When will the Android ICS be available to the International Version (GT-N7000) of the Galaxy Note.
