If you log onto Samsung’s Verizon Omnia II product page, you will see under ‘Software’, the Verizon Wireless SCH-I920 End User Upgrade Tool.
Set to release tomorrow on January 6th, it seems that some users have already got their hands on the Omnia II’s ROM Upgrade.
Since we couldn’t get our hands on one yet, we are going to have to hold back on reviewing the upgrade. Nonetheless, for those that have tried it, there seems to be a consensus that little or no change was observed on their Omnia II following the upgrade.
Feedbacks on SCH-i920’s Upgrade ROM
Here are some feedbacks from the users who have tried the upgrade:
- No change log was available to check what has been changed
- Installation on Windows 7 seems to freeze midway through the upgrade
- It runs smoothly on Windows XP (took less than 10 minutes)
- I notice a little bit better performance with the Samsung UI and I didn’t see any major increase RAM availability (by emvious)
It is important to note that this upgrade’s designated Operating System is Windows XP. For users with Windows 7, you will need to choose Windows Vista as the compatible OS.

The upgrade is not yet official, so we cannot verify whether the above statements are facts. We will be checking back tomorrow to see if the software is available for download then.

Just more efficient in the sense that there is no lag since that’s the only and most important complaint.
Upgrade froze at 31% and bricked my phone – with Vista Home Premium as my OS. Level 2 Samsung tech support was not able to correct my issue. Must call again to get a level 3 tech support. Crossing my fingers
BTW – my phone is an Omnia II SCH-i920 Verizon CDMA that came out of the box with CJ10
I’m hoping the upgrade automatically detects and sets the proper screen resolution. I’ve installed Yahtzee and all I get is a small window in top left corner showing the program. I believe the issue is resolution and wvgafix3 does not work on the Omnia 2. If you know how to fix this please email me: newby@san.rr.com
Although I did not try this using XP. Using W7 under any compatibility modes will brick your phone! (it did mine). Avoid this upgrade (patch) or take your phone to Verizon and get it done.
It will stop at 31% on W7 during the upgrade and will also fail the emergency mode upgrade.
Thanks for all the notices. We’ve added a caution note in the article.
Same here, Win Vista Home Premium, stopped at 31%. Bricked the phone. Returning phone to Verizon through employer for a replacement. Had high hopes for the upgrade to speed up the phone, but not details about what the ROM upgrade actually does.

“No change log was available to check what has been changed”
So how we know what change in this update?
