Back in the early 2000, mobile phone users are accustomed to text messaging with the phone-pad. Back then, the technology did not allow an efficient placing of a QWERTY keyboard on most of the phones (whether physical or touchscreen).

Today, QWERTY keyboard has taken over as the main input method on most of the phones. Phone-pads input method however, did not go away as its ingrained in most users habits, it’s nostalgic to go back to phone-pads.

On the new Samsung Omnia II, while there isn’t a phone-pad input method for selection, you can turn it on from the Samsung Keypad.

To do so, on the Samsung Keypad screen press and hold the MODE xt9 button on the bottom left. This will bring up an option screen that allows you to choose from one of the three layouts that includes:

  • 12 keypad
  • 20 keypad
  • Qwerty

If you are used to the old school keypads, simply choose the first option of 12 keypad.
