Now that we have the Samsung bada installed, we can take a look at one of bada’s application sample. Head over to the SDK directory for the sample folder.

Get Started with Samsung bada’s Application Sample

First, run badaIDE.exe and import BasicApp (you can locate it at: C:\bada\SDK\Samples\BasicApp)

Then, from the menu go to File > Import.

Select the BasicApp folder under [bada SDK installed path]\Samples and click Finish

Once imported, go to the project window. Right-click on the project and click on Build Project

When the build is complete, click Run As > 1 bada Simulator Application

You can see the launching dialog as the following

Below is the screenshot of the simulator which will show the home screen

Let’s run the sample application. As you can see, the device skin is shown (Samsung Omnia II) and you can also see the application’s appearance. Form-based programming is available. You may also run bada applications in the simulator environment.

We have screenshots from 3 sample applications below:

Button Action

Sample Form 1 is a button click sample. The text on the label will show a different text when the button below is clicked.

Changing Orientation

Sample Form 2 demonstrate the orientation function where the device’s orientation changes when the button is clicked

Sample Form 3 displays image in the form

If you are interested, here are 9 applications built with the bada platform shown during the platform’s release.

The bada platform is slowly shaping up to be a rather flexible tool. We do need to wait and see how practical the platform will be in the mass market.
