Omnia II Video Tips Series #2: Using SmartReader
SmartReader come pre-installed on the Samsung Omnia II. It has three scanning features that allows you to scan documents, business card and translation. It uses the camera to scan and identify text. With the scanned items, you can then forward them to others through Bluetooth, Email or MMS.
SmartReader’s 4 Functions
Business Card: Scanned information can be stored as contacts on your device. On printed text with legit fonts, it is fairly accurate in the information it can extract. If you have good handwriting, you can even write your own business card and scan it, we tried and it wasn’t easy to get it right.
Documents: As you can see from the video below, the scanned text’s output are, on most part quite accurate. Varying factors include reflection, font type, positioning of the cameras, etc.
Translation: Different Omnia II versions provides different translation. On mine, it only translates to German from English (as seen in the screenshot). Yours might be different, check it out -- it’s pretty fun.

Images: This lets you load up any picture that you have taken within the SmartReader. The 4 tabs above are respectively: showing all pictures taken, business card, document and translation. Treat this as a hub to perform all things SmartReader.

This is useful because…
SmartReader can be useful in many ways. In fact, each of the the 3 scanning function is practical in its own ways. Business card let’s you save contact information quickly, scanning documents let’s you forward what you see to your friends in text format and translation can be a lifeline when you are in a foreign country.
The best part? If you already owns an Omnia II, this feature comes together with the package.
Try it out and let us know what you think of it.
