Opera Mobile 10 is fast becoming our favorite mobile browser. For desktop users, Opera Mobile 10 offers similar experience where you can assign favorites to open on click, allowing multiple tabs, and others. The speed is significantly faster and the UI has also improved since the last update. The question now is, how can I set it as the default mobile browser?
For some of you, the option to set it as a default is prompted when you load the mobile browser. For others, you might have to dig into the registry setting and make some adjustment to the values.
Objective
Set Opera Mobile 10 as the default mobile browser
Applicable Device(s)
Samsung Pocket PCs and Smartphones
What you need
Registry editor (i.e. PHM Editor)
Registry Address
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\
Value Name(s)
- 1
Value Data
This is where you will make the change to the location of Opera Mobile 10’s execution file. We installed it in My Storage, you might have installed it elsewhere. Whatever the case may be, just find and enter the location of the Opera10-armv4i.exe file.
- Change from \My Storage\Program Files\Opera Mobile\OperaL.exe to
- \My Storage\Program Files\Opera Mobile 10\Opera10-armv4i.exe

Here are a couple of screenshots for the registry edits’ locations.

You will need to perform a soft-reset for the setting to be applied.

When I installed Opera10 on my Omnia these registration changes were made automatically.
Yes, it seems to do so for mine as well. But just in case it doesn’t, try this.
The Opera Mobile 10 beta doesnt work on WM standard (non-touchscreen smartphones). You should change your tag so people with Jack’s dont get confused.
It has been applied. Thanks for pointing that out.
