Barcode Zilla is a perfect app to take with you this holiday season for price comparison. Simply scan the barcode of a product and retrieve information from both local databases and information through the internet. The application is fairly light-weight without much drag in waiting.

Note: You will need to have .NET Compact Framework 3.5 and SQL Compact 3.5 SP1

Features on BarcodeZilla

These are the features that we have observed from BarcodeZilla:

  • Speed: the application loads, scan and output result fairly fast. Good to have while standing in the isle of Wal-Mart.
  • Local database: for a number of the products, you don’t actually need internet access for information since a local database is also attached to allow local search
  • Finger-friendly: The buttons available are fairly finger-friendly. Click on various icons to check its functionality

Doesn’t work on my Epix. I get an error when I open the program. I’ve tried installing it twice.

It might not support QVGA(320X320). Let me test it on myEpix.

Doesn’t work on my Epix either. I also get an error upon program start-up.

I think maybe the error I got was due to not having SQL CF 3.5 SP1 installed on my WM6 device.

I received an error on my Omnia i910. “Can’t find PInvoke DLL ’sqlceme35.dll’.”

Okay, I’ll admit that I didn’t notice above where it clearly says “Note: You will need to have .NET Compact Framework 3.5 and SQL Compact 3.5 SP1″

Does it work for everyone now? I’ve just added highlight to the text for the note, sorry if there was some confusion.

How do you install the SQL Compact 3.5 SP1 on the phone? It is a .msi file that my Omnia i910 can’t open, and when I installed on my computer, with ActiveSync running, there was no option to install on the phone.

To install the .msi files, plug in your ActiveSync cable onto your computer and then open those .msi files. This way the installation will be executed on your mobile device.

I reinstalled the App, after installing the Net 3.5 files.

However, I’m now getting error messages when I start the program.

Omnia i910 w/WM 6.1

Anyone having success with the program?
