The bada OS is a customized platform from Nucleus OS

According to ROA Group, a mobile industry consulting company, bada is a customized platform of the Nucleus operating system, which is a Real-Time OS (RTOS)  developed by Mento Graphics. Samsung has renewed Nucleus’ OS license contract with AT Korea, the reseller of Mento Graphics, in December. They enhanced RTOS and its UI frameworks to enable application installation and operation.

It has the ability to change feature phones to Smartphones

Samsung has been using the Nucleus OS on a good number of Touch phones including the multi-million seller Samsung Jet. There are some advantages of using the OS. It allows multitasking capability and having TouchWiz UI running on the OS.

Additionally, one Samsung director mentioned that “devices having open platform bada is categorized into smartphone, even though it is normal phone.” and “a lot of  bada devices will be shown starting from the early next year.”

This affirms the prediction that even though Samsung has only 3.4% of market share in the smartphone industry, it has the potential to produce up to 2 billion Samsung phones with bada platform running on them. This will open many doors of opportunities for developers looking to reach the mass market.
