Samsung have just revealed the color e-paper which is much larger and thinner than the Nook from Barns & Nobles.
In addition to a transparent AMOLED-display, Samsung who were at an exhibition in Japan demonstrated the 10.1″ colored “electronic paper”. Mass production for the device is expected to begin in 1-2 years time.
The screen is a combination of TFT panels, electronic paper and a color filter. While the filter is made of flexible plastic, to ensure the flexibility of the screen in large, the TFT panel is made on the basis of glass.
Overall construction is assessed as very successful and compact. Shown by the sample, which has a thickness of 0.7mm, screen resolution of 450X600 pixels, contrast ration of 10:1 and the reflectance of about 12%. Guaranteed range of colors representing 7% of the NTSC gamut.
