It has been 6 months since Tellme, a Microsoft subsidiary application was previewed in some hallway. Tellme was spotted with the introduction of Samsung Intrepid but have yet to officially release with Windows Mobile 6.5. Pixelwix from PPCGeeks have extracted the installer and it seem to work with .NET CF 3.5 installed.

The story of how he got the installer is interesting. Which is probably why the touchscreen capability does not work on the application. Many devices have been verified to work with the extracted installer with the basic functions of the soft keys still usable.

To get to a certain function, you will need to go through the soft keys.

Interested? Get the file from PPCGeeks and try it on your device. (.NET CF 3.5 Required)

Why Tellme works?

With billions of voice requests interpreted each year, human input improves the accuracy and speed of the Tellme platform to help you do anything on the go.

Thanks to user like you, Tellme works better with each request.

Touch screen seems to be working on the Omnia. Only problem I have found so far is the option soft key. You have to tap on the small arrow to get it to work.

I see. I think the extracted Tellme is designed for WM 6.5 so there might be some design compatibility issue. But how was the user-experience when using the voice-command?

Well, I’m running 6.5.1 build 23081 at the moment. I’m not sure if it will work on 6.1 Omnias. I also know that several others that have tried have not gotten it working yet on their 6.5.1 ROMs.

So far the user experience has been great. Sent a text message, made a phone call and have looked up several things and everything works. I need to connect GPS to see about the location part but so far it is much nicer than Voice Command.

I installed it on my Epix running 6.1. It seemed to install ok, and runs fine (other than the lack of touchscreen function as you mentioned). However, it has been unable to recognize anything I say. I don’t know if it just has a problem with my voice, or if something is wrong with the program on my phone. Once time it did hear me, just not what I said, so it appears it’s not a microphone issue.
