Samsung Omnia Series Officially Annouced

Samsung seeks to reinforce its leadership in the smartphone market and build on the success of the Omnia I (I900), which sold more than 2.5 million units worldwide last year.


Samsung Omnia selling more than 2.5 million units is the highlight. It seems logical for Samsung to build on that success. This births the now acclaimed Samsung Omnia series, which includes the upcoming Samsung Omnia 2 (through Verizon). The rest of the four devices are the OmniaPRO B7610, OmniaPRO B7320, OmniaPRO B7330 and OmniaLITE (B7300).

Samsung plans to release the rest of Omnia series as Windows Phones on Windows Mobile 6.5. The Samsung Omnia 2, OmniaPRO B7610, and OmniaPRO B7320 (Samsung Jack in the States) will be upgradeable to the latest platform whenever applicable.

Samsung Omnia II

The most prolific device of the series, the Omnia 2 is due to release by the end of this year despite being already made available in some Asian countries including Singapore. Taglined as the “all-in-one redefined”, the Windows Mobile 6.1 device (upgradeable to 6.5 when released) features the AMOLED display on a screen larger than iPhone and an improved finger-friendly user-interface.
Launch date: Early June, 2009 (in parts of Asia)
Launch platform: Windows Mobile 6.1 (upgradeable to 6.5)

OmniaLITE (B7300)

Aiming for a simple smartphone experience, the future Windows Mobile 6.5 device is packed with essential tools for business and multimedia usage. It is also known for its light-weightiness which is good news for the pocket that carries it. The downloadable online widget is a plus for user who desire more from the standard that comes with the TouchWiz 2.0 UI.
Launch date: October, 2009

OmniaPRO (B7610)

Certainly one of the best-equipped device in the series, the OmniaPro is a slider with many (12 to be exact) secrets. The slick design is going to gain some admirer for the device. Other features including the high-quality headphones, dual user-interface and other smart features is bound to boost the device’s popularity.

Launch platform: Windows Mobile 6.1 (upgradeable to 6.5)

OmniaPRO (B7330)

“Work smarter with Play in reach”, the Omnia Pro B7300 is a smartphone equipped with QWERTY keypad and a professional modern design. The Omnia Pro 7330 aims to provide essential tools for both personal and business needs. The keyword used here is quick, accessing services and applications should be a breeze on this device.

OmniaPRO (B7320)

Known better as the Samsung Jack here in the United States, the OmniaPRO B7320 is a well polished device that has been branded with “Personal Assistant Perfected”. The compact and ergonomic design is just one of the plus for the device known for its messaging capability. It’s corporate push email support amongst other internet-friendly features let’s you maintain relationship and connecting with people easier.
Launch date: Late July, 2009
Launch platform: Windows Mobile 6.1 (upgradeable to 6.5)

From the look of it, Samsung is aligning its devices’ release date with the launch of Windows Mobile 6.5 in October. With the launch date just 19 days away, fans of these devices who have been waiting for them since their appearances in Asia don’t have to wait much longer.

Does anybody know yet which network the other 4 Omnia’s are going to? Any rumors about going to AT&T… Maybe…

We don’t know yet which of the other 3 are going. The OmniaPRO B7320 however, is the equivalent of Samsung Jack that is already available in AT&T. We’ve play around with it before and it’s pretty slick. (It’s a smartphone, not pocketpc, hence no touchscreen. Just FYI.)
