Tweak Your Way Back to Classic Word Completion

Pocketnow.com reminded us of the things we can do with registry edits. When it comes to text editing, XT9 dictionary is a great way to enter a bunch of text quickly. However, where there is fans, there are people who prefers others. In this case, its the good old classic word suggestion/completion where a vertical drop-down box is shown when characters are punched in.

There are a couple of ways that you can go about completing that switch: manual registry edits or installing a cab file that does that for you automatically. If you’d like to simple have the installation do the work for you, here is the CAB file (from PPCGeeks) for your convenience. And for the rest of you, the instructions below should guide you through the registry edit successfully.

Objective

Reactivate Classic Word Completion

Applicable Device(s)

Samsung Omnia and Samsung Epix

What you need

Registry editor (i.e. PHM Editor)

Registry Address

Feel free to add them if these registry keys are not available. In our scenario, we had to add the 112 key into the registry as well as the value names that follows.

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Tegic\eT9\
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\e0010409

Value Name(s)

Feel free to add them if these value names are not available.

  • From HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Tegic\eT9\
    • XT9SupportMSSip
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\e0010409
    • Ime File
    • Layout Text

Value Data

  • XT9SupportMSSip: Change to 0
  • Ime File: Change to \windows\compime.dll
  • Layout Text: Change to COMP IME

Screenshot

The first screenshot shows the registry address. The second one shows the classic word completion in effect.

If the effect doesn’t take place right way, give it a light nudge by soft-reseting the device and it should work. Feel free to leave comments of your experience.

Hi,
This tweak no longer work on windows 6.5.3 (Build 28011), it was working great on 6.1. Do you know any new fix for word completion?
Thanks
