With the smartphone there is so much you can do which inevitably produces a good amount of data. And while some of these data are disposable, some are not. This then makes backing up your data a critical process in using a smartphone. We are going to share some of the backup options for both local and cloud backups. Amongst the variety of options out there, you probably only need a selective few to fulfill your needs.

Local Backup (i.e. PIM)

For the most part, you are dealing with personal information such as call logs, text messages and calendar appointments. Since these are default applications, it is relatively easier for developers to retrieve and backup these information. Below is a list of backup application that we have either tested or used before.

  1. PIM Backup: The most commonly used application. It is easy to start using, restore and set backup schedules
  2. NS Contacts Backup: Focused on Contacts, this freeware backs up your contacts
  3. FileFort Similar to PIM Backup but with a few more extensive features added
  4. Windows Mobile SMS Sync: Focuses on both the text messages and call logs
  5. Turbo Contact Backup: Backups on Contacts (including phone and SIM contacts)
  6. PIM Organizer: A visually pleasing that perform the same way as PIM Backup except for the additional graphics

Cloud Backup

Still feeling unsecured about the local backup being stored on a physical device? Below are some cloud backup option which place your backup data on a server. This way, losing your phone will not equate losing all of your data.

  1. MyPhone: Operated by Microsoft, this free service is delightfully easy to use
  2. MobiWee: This is a powerful tool, visible by the number of remotely controlled options available
  3. Dashwire: Not only providing backup service but as a web application that displays your mobile data
  4. Flexilis: Initially a device-based security application, Flexilis has since added its own backup options.

These 10 backup options does not necessarily conflict with one another. But keeping more than one copy of backup may cause confusion in the long run. So do access your scenario and use only when applicable. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to choose one from either of the backup options (local and cloud).
