[Businessmen Must Know] #1: Security on your Mobile

Before we move to anything complex, let’s first make sure the data on your device is well secured! We’re going to look at how you can use the security settings, phone and SIM card lock features as well as ways to reset your device to ensure the integrity of your data. Let’s get started!
1. Security Settings on your WM Device
With options in Security, you can now protect your phone and SIM card from unauthorized use.
Simply follow these steps:
- On the Home Screen, go to Start >  Settings >  Security and press the select key (
) - Select from the available options to enable security settings for your device.

Do you worry about losing micro SD card? It can be encrypted and it works with microSD card up to 16GB.
Simply go to Encryption under Security and select “Encrypt files when placed on storage cards“.

2. Locking the Phone
Have sensitive information on your device and doesn’t want anybody who holds it to access it? You can enable device lock so your device will be locked each time following periods of inactivity.
To enable this feature, you will need to follow these 7 steps:
- On the Home screen, select Start > Â Settings > Security > Device Lock and press the key.
- Select Prompt if device unused for and select a length of time the phone waits for before locking itself when it is not in use. Press the key to mark the checkbox. Note: You will be prompted to create a password the first time this feature is enabled
- Scroll to the Password type field and select a password type
- Simpe PIN: Use a numeric password. A password must be more than 4 characters.
- Strong alphanumeric: use an alphanumeric password. A password must be more than 7 characters long and contains at least 3 uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, or punctuation marks
- Enter a password in the Password field
- Re-enter the same password in the Confirm password field for confirmation
- Press Done and Yes to confirm any changes
3. Locking the SIM Card
In the event of your device being stolen, one way you can others from using the device is by barring the use of their SIM card. With the SIM Lock enabled, your phone works only with the SIM card you have used to set the password.
To use another SIM card, you must enter the SIM lock password. Here is how you can set it up:
- On the Home Screen, select Start > settings > Â Security > Enabled SIM Lock and press the select key (
) - Enter a password for your SIM card and press Done
- Re-enter the password for confirmation and press Done

4. Resetting the Phone aka ‘Hard reset’, or ‘Format’
Sometimes, you may want to delete everything on your device including from your storage. You may certainly do so by performing a hard reset on your device.
This can be done even if the phone is powered off as we will describe below:
Note: When you hard reset, everything will be erased, so if there are data that you’d like to keep, be sure to keep a backup copy of it.
Hard Reset when Powered On
On the Home Screen, select Start > Settings > Security > Master Clear and press the Select key (
)
Press Yes to confirm and the device will then be rebooted
Hard Reset when Powered Off
- While the phone is off, power on the phone whle holding the 5/F key
- The Format menu will then be displayed
- Press one of the following keys
- 1: Master Clear – This option will erase user storage
- 2. Master Reset – This option will erase the registry
- 0. Exit – This option will exit the Format Menu without resetting the device.
