Windows Mobile or iPhone? Okay, so Wired didn’t include a single WinMo device in its “Smart Guide“, but that doesn’t deny the presence of the operating system in today’s market. One of the predecessor of smartphones and pocket PCs, the Windows Mobile has came a long way and much is expected in the upcoming version number 7, following the newly improved WM 6.5.

So at this stage of the game, why would anyone choose a Windows Mobile device, say the Samsung Omnia rather than the iPhone? Apparently, slick design, the invincible App store is not the top priority for many users.

Pocketnow.com’s Brandon Miniman gave a rather detailed illustration of his love-hate relationship with using both the iPhone and the WinMo devices. In this review, he shared his view on the capability to organize, ease of accessing information and sometimes, the speed of internet access.

These indifferences differs from person to person, if you’re contended with having just 4 icons on the deck for anytime access, you will be happy with the iPhone. If you need to access your daily appointment list with one look, then maybe a WinMo device will be your choice.

Brandon emphasized that the differences in creating a huge market share depends hugely on the barrier to entry. While previously the sweetest device in the entire industry in terms of its design, iPhone’s niche is now the App store, which though immense, may be overtaken by competitors who could offer better incentive for developers. Below is a list of pros and cons for picking either of the device according to this article.

Windows Mobile Goodies

  1. More devices with slick designs
  2. Ability to better organize and present applications
  3. Ability to display useful information using the Today screen
  4. Allowance of 3rd party applications to customize the device

iPhone Advantage

  1. Universal Search in the new iPhone 3G S
  2. Huge collection applications in the App store to serve every need

Very interesting article on the topic. I really like one of the comment left by one of the visitor, Lizette:

“btw, don’t you find it a bit ironic that the iPhone cannot show information on it’s “unlock screen” and S2U2 can do it all?”

Are you a WinMo or an iPhone?

This from someone that has the Iphone and an Samsung WinMo phone:
If I want easy use of multimedia features, I use the Iphone.
If I want to work with MS Exchange, do calendering, attend to my business, I use my WinMo phone.
If I want to shuffle Icons left-to-right, right-to-left all
day long (as people in crowded NYC subway train do), I use my Iphone.
If I want to do just about anything related to data with my phone, I use my WinMo phone.
If I am in need of working with a one-size-fits-all solution, I use my Iphone.
If I want to organize my data in folders and have the freedom to do what I want with my data, I use my WinMo phone.
If I don’t care to use what I’m provided with in terms of usage and control, I use my Iphone.
If I want to make a statement, I use my Iphone.
If I want to use a phone operating system that allows me to “operate” the device, I use my WinMo phone.
If I want…
