[Beginner] CareAce Class 04: Emails and Shortcut

This is lesson #3 in the ongoing series of CareAce.net’s Beginner’s Guide with a focus on the Samsung Jack. Please check back for more lessons as we move from basic to more advanced materials.

Moving along from the lesson on using your phone, let’s get to what smartphone can really do, the easy use of emails and ability to use shortcuts. Aside from text messages and phone calls, email is certainly next up on the most-commonly-used feature list. We’re going to go through all aspects of using email on a mobile device. Additionally, we’ll also introduce the use of shortcuts to speed up your user experience.

01. Using Shortcuts (Included in Video Guide)


Shortcuts is a gift for smartphone which has plenty of hardware be assigned a task each. With shortcut feature enabled, numbers and letters can now be used to access menu items and options quickly.

Using the FN Key Settings, you have up to 26 available shortcuts (A-Z) to choose from. To use any of the defined shortcut, simply press Fn together with the letter to initiate the option or application. The 6 shortcuts below are preassigned and may be reassigned to fit your needs:

  • B: Bluetooth On/Off
  • C: AT&T Mall
  • H: Headset Manager
  • M: AT&T Music
  • V: CV
  • W: Media Net

02. Using Email on on Mobile Device


Introducing Email on Mobile

Email is no longer an activity that is limited to the desktop. You now can send and receive email on the go, anytime, anywhere. Windows Mobile has made email on its device very easy to setup and maintain. We will go through the simple steps of setting up your email accounts, synchronizing your email messages as well as writing and sending out emails from your mobile devices, and viewing email attachments.

Creating Email Account (Included in Video Guide)

Setting up the email account on your mobile device is easy! In less than 10 steps and a few minutes, you will be sitting down sipping tea and checking on your new email messages.

To get start, we will first need to get to the Messaging screen. You can get there in many ways, for smartphone users such as Samsung Jack, there is a button on the lower right that will take you there when clicked on. Are you there yet?

  1. From the main Messaging screen, select Setup E-mail.
  2. Enter your display e-mail address, and press the Next key
  3. If you want to set up your account automatically from the Internet, select Try to get e-mail settings automatically from the Internet
  4. Select Your e-mail provider
  5. Enter your name and account display name, and press the Next key
  6. Enter your Incoming mail server; select the account type (POP3 or IMAP4), and press the Next key
  7. Enter your user name and password, and press the Next key
  8. Enter your outgoing (SMTP) mail server and press the Next key. To configure advanced settings, such as SSL or Internet connection settings, select Advanced Server Settings
  9. Select how often your device automatically connects to the server and checks for incoming E-mails, and press the
  10. Press Finish key when done

Synchronizing Email messages

If you are currently using Microsoft Exchange or Microsoft Outlook on your PC, you may use ActiveSync to synchronize your Inbox between your mobile and desktop devices. To do so, you will need to enable Inbox synchronization in ActiveSync as we mentioned in a previous lesson.

During the synchronization, messages will be copied across the mailboxes between the two devices. In the end, you will end up with the latest email when you log on to either device.

Creating and sending Email messages

  1. On the Messaging main screen, select the e-mail account with which you want to send.
  2. Press the Menu soft key and select New.
  3. In the To, Cc, or Bcc field, enter the recipients e-mail addresses, separating them with a semicolon.

    Note:
    The Cc and Bcc fields are above the To field. You can retrieve addresses from the contact list by pressing the Menu soft key and selecting Add Recipient.
  4. Move the Navigation key Down to move to the Subject field and enter the e-mail subject.
  5. Move the Navigation key Down and enter the message text. To enter preset or frequently used sentences, press the Menu soft key and select My Text to insert the sentence. You can also add a picture or voice note as an attachment by pressing the Menu soft key and selecting Insert ➔ an item type.
  6. Press the Send soft key when you finish composing the message.
  7. Press the Menu soft key and select Send/Receive to connect to the network and send the message.

Viewing Email attachments

To download an attachment, select Get entire message and any attachments in an open message, or press the Menu soft key and select Download Message. The attachment downloads the next time you synchronize or connect to your e-mail server. To view an attachment, select the attachment in an open message.

This excises should be easy and enjoyable. You will be able to setup your email account as well as utilizing the shortcut feature on your Samsung Jack (or other Samsung Smartphones). Give these a try

  • Setup you email account! It may be a Microsoft Exchange account, a Gmail account or one through a customized email provider. Whatever it might be, try to set it up. Have a question? Contact us!

As a first time user, beginner’s lesson helped me to set up my e-mail account, especially watching the video was great source for me to understand better.

Hi Folks,

It would be very nice to include in this lesson, how to modify the settings such that the mobile can use alternative email client software instead of the default outlook mobile.

For example, I use Profimail from http://www.lonelycatgames.com and this is a great deal better than outlook.

Hope someone can help with a solution. A registry hack or editing perhaps?
