2 weeks has past since the latest effort to revive the Samsung Epix for the users encountering problems with SLOG DUMP error. And we have now a better idea of the post effects and perhaps some ways to deal with it. In this article, we will take a look at some of the more common issues raised and possible solutions to these problems.
Common Problems
| Problems | Description | Possible Solutions |
|---|---|---|
| Installation of the ID1 Update | Some users have raised up the issue of successfully installing the update:If you were not asked of the ID/Password, then you are missing Step 5 of the update and may not proceed properly. This might be caused by Windows XP’s security patch problem.
Another PC-dependent issue may be with the improper installation of the drivers in Step 2 of the update. |
|
| Battery | Once week-long battery life is now shorten to days if not a mere 24 hours. That completely wasted the functionality of the device.
As many have noted, this decline in battery may be correlated with the GPS. Device.exe runs when GPS is turned on, and it can easily shoot up to 70~80% of memory. |
Restarting your device each time a process runs up to 70~80% is just not a practical solution.
We do suggest that you try to kill the process using Task Manager or similar application rather than simply closing out the application. |
| GPS | GPS stop working when tried on Google Map or AT&T Navigator. | One of the default settings for the GPS is when first started (new or after hard-reset), is to let it run for about 15 to 30 minutes in an outdoor environment. |
This is a summary of the more common problems encountered by users with ID1 update for the Samsung Epix released a fortnight ago.
Since the problem may be georgraphical, some of the device that we’ve tested up in the Northwest did not have SLOG DUMP error, and some did not have the common problems as listed above.
However, this does not discredit the issue and we hope that it can be dealt with by either Samsung or AT&T soon. Afterall, it is no fun for users who previously have access to functions like GPS and now, loss both the function and battery life.

I have a theory on the slog dump issue. The only times that I have gotten that error was when I’m in a town with bad 3g coverage and my epix is constantly switching between 3g and edge. I moved to a city with good 3g coverage a month ago and have not received the slog dump error, but while spending the week in a different city where my phone once again switched between 3g and edge a lot I got 2 slog dump errors. Thats just my thought on the matter.
@Jordan, this is a great insight. We’ve always thought that the issue of SLOG DUMP could be a location-based problem. Your theory does align with that. Thanks for the input.
So are they saying that I should have ran my GPS for 15 to 30 minutes outside for it to work? I’m a little confused on that, so what is the fix if you didn’t do that after you did the hard-reset? Do you have to give it another hard-reset to get it working again?
Since I’m not having the SLOG DUMP issues and dont need the email notification as I have it set to only send and receive on my command, is this update necessary? After hearing about all the issues with battery life I’m hesitant to apply the update.
The new hotfix is working great on my Epix though, there are a lot of complainment of battery and GPS. I think Samsung might release a new patch for that. If you don’t have serious problems so far, you’d better waiting for that.^^
