Download: Improve Samsung Omnia’s Touchscreen

Yes, we know we know. The topic has been covered before. In both cases it was a registry edit involving changes to various value data.  To save you the trouble, we have compiled them into a cab installer. And with a single installation, you can improve your Samsung Omnia’s Touchscreen.

While the process of registry editing is not difficult, it can be bothersome. For starter, you will need to find yourself a copy of registry edit before exploring the directories to locate the specific value data to be changed. Hopefully this application will get you the functionality in much shorter time.

What does it do?

Once installed, the application will make changes to the registry values and add the description into a file name “ImproveOmniaTouch.txt” in the following path: ProgramFiles\CareAce. And the registry values to be changed are:

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Hardware\Devicemap\Touch\Click
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Hardware\Devicemap\Touch\DownUp
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Hardware\Devicemap\Touch\CalibrationData

Details

For more details about the registry change you may visit the posts that we’ve written here and here.

Give it a try and let us know if it worked for you! :)

This worked beautifully on my i910. It installed in less time than it took to read the description, and the difference was immediately noticeable.

Now I can drag things and finger-scroll without accidentally opening things. Before using this, everything I’d drag would end up getting opened because the sensor wasn’t detecting continuous finger contact, and would ‘imagine’ that I was tapping, when I wasn’t. Also, it would frequently fail to detect when I did quickly tap on an ap or link, so I’d end up tapping more than once to get it to do what I wanted.
It works much better now. 5/5 stars guys.
Thanks!

(I can’t imagine why this wasn’t the factory default setting or why Omnia didn’t have a built in adjustment for it)

@Persia, wow, how did we miss your comment for this long! We do apologize. This small app is a simple change of the registry setting and may be removed at any time with. It should not cause any harm to your device.

@Kate, thank you! Glad to help out~ :)

How do I get the application to run on my phone? I downloaded it and place the file on my phone but when I select the item called “setup” nothing happens.

@Shalene, try to move the ImproveOmniaTouch.cab file into your device and click on that through your device’s File Explorer. That will take you through the installation process. You will need an ActiveSync cable to move the cab file and the rest of the process should be done on your device.

care ace is really ACE!!! this worked perfectly as did most other tweaks save mayb for the 10mb memory expansion. bt that must be coz of the firmware or sthg atleast the dialer pad changes. this is the best samsung site i ve seen so far. keep up the good work. quick menu is really nice too.

Does the new ROM eliminate the need for this fix?

@JDOCKETS, basically this installation made changes to 2 of your registry values that will improve the sensitivity, etc of your Omnia’s Touchscreen. Hope this helped. :)

@jdockets, Yes, just install and reboot your device. If you don’t like it, you can simply remove the program.

I had already updated my i910 with the new rom that unlocks the GPS so to me there is no difference using this program. I think this inhancement was already included in the upgrade. I bought mine with a screen protector on so I dont know if the protector effects the performance. I have to use my finger and nail to get a reponse unless I push hard on the screen. Using my skin on my finger alone doesnt work good. Is this normal? Any feedback wokd be cool.

Yes, IT WORKS – THANKS
Omnia users will recognize it first in Standard contact application which is much better to handle after installing this tool.

Is there a way to prove this works. After download and install, I can’t observe any improvement. I have the GPS download update installed. When trying to navigate webpages with my finger it is still chaos.

Great, cheers! It seems to greatly improve navigation on the email and sms screens, and pretty much stopped the annoying habit of opening messages when I just want to stop scrolling.

i ended up here cos i was actually looking for a way to improve the touch sensitivity of my(xtremely cheap) SAMSUNG STAR (aka samsung gt-s5233a).
it appears that the registry edit is a hit on the Omnia.
is there ANY way to help improve the touch sensitivity of my phone?? :(

[[this may sound crazy(n funny)...but as i'm nuts about improving the touch sensitivity of my phone......i downloaded the cab file,...connected my phone in 'mass storage' mode and installed the .cab into it(from my PC itself). After this i feel my touchscreen better....(!?)
not the sensitivity as such, but the scroll....now things donot get opened up accidently as i scroll.
now someone plz tell me Is It Possible??or its just some ridiculous Psychological illusion...????]]

I would be Xremly thankful if someone figures out a way to do similar tweak in this(samsung star) phone.(though i know that its foolish to post this on a site dedicated to ‘windows’ samsung mobiles)

thx.thx.veryveryvery thank you.

After installation on my Omnia II (I8000)8GB WM 6.5, my screens were completely out of alignment. That scares me and only the cube was working. Since all screen buttons were out of alignment, I have to guess my way into Align Screen and re-align everthing. Other than that, seems the touch and navigation was better than before.

I installed this on my omnia and it ruined it completely!!! If someone isn´t sure about this kind of process, beleive me, don´t try it!!! ahahaha kidding
For example, if I wanted to press the X button or whatever it didn´t let me or it opened other things, so it was impossible to me to go to Conf, Memory, etc. and delete the programe. So, as I wasn´t able to press the numbers of the screen correctly, I had to do a HARD RESET in the following way (a soft reset didn´t help).
To those who don´t know already how to do it, here´s what I did and, thanks god, solved the problem:

1)Switch off your phone.

2)Hold together (i mean, at the same time):
volumn up + screen lock + power button + answer call button.

3)Press answer call button again to confirm the hard reset (the phone will ask you if you want to do it)

Thanks anyway for the post! Bye bye!!!

For those that has problem with the patch, you can uninstall it to reset the registry settings. You do not have to hard reset the device.
