Disable XT9 on WM PocketPC, Forever!
XT9 is one of the predictive text technology used on mobile devices. While it may be a faithful friend to some, it can be an annoying neighbor to others. It is not uncommon for users to accidentally toggle the XT9 while typing a message on the default Samsung Keyboard on their PocketPCs. If you’re in the latter category as a part of the unconvenient users, there is a way for you to disable XT9 entirely through registry edit.
Objective
Disable the Toggle for XT9
Applicable Device(s)
Windows Mobile PocketPCs
Samsung Omnia, Samsung Epix
What you need
Registry Editor (such as PHM)
Registry Address
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\e0010409
Value Name
- Ime File
- Layout Text
Value Data
Make the following changes to the value names:
- Ime File: “windows\compime.dll“
- Layout Text: “COMP IME“
Screenshot

So if you are part of the crowd who is annoyed by the accidental toggled XT9, you can certain go through the simple registry edits and disable the effect!

Seconds long clip to show that XT9 does not come up when pressing ABC.
Update 8/3/2009: As Miguel has pointed out in the comment, the changes in this registry edit will disable text input in other SIPs such as Keypad and Phonepad (screenshots below). So if you would like to restore the registry settings, please go to the Registry Address and restore the value data to the following:
- Ime File: windows\XT9ime.dll
- Layout Text: XT9 IME
