This is a fairly refreshing to us as well, but apparently, you can send emails to any mobile device and they will receive them as simple text messages. This is the kind of costless one-stone-two-bird scenario where the both of you can communicate in the form that you prefers.
Tested by CareAce
We want to prove what we say can come true, so we sent an email to the given text message number (scrambled) and a few seconds letter, our testing device vibrates and we got the text message! Simple as that, and it works!

How it Works
Most of the carriers offers free Email to SMS gateway that forwards emails as text messages. If you want, you can even try to send images with the message and they will be delivered as MMS. To do these, you will need to know the number and email addresses to take full advantage of the service.
MakeUseOf.com has written up a list consisting of information on the Carrier and Email to SMS Gateway contact. Please refer to the following 2 list for more detail.

International (& the rest of the US)

We can visualize that this service can become a very helpful tool to users who had prefer to receive text message and users who had prefer to send email. It’s the best of both worlds!
