Note: This application requires the .NET Compact Framework 3.5 to run.
If you don’t already have it, you can download the .NET CF 3.5 here.
Advanced Configuration Tool (ACT) might be a mouth full when you want to introduce it to your friend, but it would be worth it to cram your jaw. The application is just as its name indicate, a tool used to perform advanced configuration on your device. The best part (other than it being free), it’s easy!
I think if you want to impress people, this statement should do it – “…allows you to easily modify more than 200 settings…” Yup, that’s what they said.
Installation
2 steps:Â Download file and install the file on your device.
Simply that! For storage space consideration, you can easily install it on your My Storage.
Design
The design is simple, neat yet flexibile. ACT is operable both in landscape and portrait view.
On startup you are shown a list of the various main categories such as Power Management, Phone, User Interface, etc. You can narrow down your search for the specific configuration by expanding these categories.
Right underneath the explorer-style window is the description and option bar. Try selecting any of the specific options and you will see the title, description as well as the option that is available for the specific configuration.
Once you have changed something, the color of the text will turn red (from the default green) until you perform soft-reset on your device.
And if the bar is getting in your way, you can modify its position by tap and hold the line above the description bar.
Convenient.
Usability
The application is fairly easy to use and it works with little fuss. To track the changes you made, simply go through the explorer-style window (prior to any soft-reset). Anything that shows up in red are the ones you have made changes to.
In order to apply the changes, you will need to perform a soft reset. You can do so by going to Menu and Soft-Reset.
Of the options that we have tried, including Screen, Input and User Interface, all have worked. Please feel free to let us (or the developer) know if any changes to the setting have not been applied following a soft-reset.
Features
- Extensive tweak list
- Ability to track changes before soft-reset
- Multi-device and multi-language support
- Ability to Import and Export settings through provisional XML
Pros
- Simplistic design with useful functions
- With so many categories and items, you can do about anything on this thing
Cons
This is one of those application that has efficiently performed what it was programmed to. There might be glitches when making changes in some areas, but in general, there is nothing major to complain about ACT.
Should I get it?
Long answer: This is a must-have for the tweak-manics. It lays out everything clearly and neatly in front of you, all you have to do is make up your mind on what to change.
Short answer: YES!
