See a need and fill a need seems to be the slogan of many 3rd party Windows Mobile developers. In this case, Chitza has experienced the Storage space issue that many Windows Mobile users had encountered. With a “Storage space low” warning, you have no idea where to start looking. Blindly poking around the directories drains time and energy. Now there’s a solution to better pin-point the storage-hogging files or folders.
Installation
Installation is simple and does not have to be installed straight to the device since the application will perform scanning for the entire device.
Design
The design is similiar to the Windows Explorer on your Desktop. Once you have selected a folder to scan, you can easily distinguish the differences between folders and files. The storage size in front of the folder name may not be the best way to present the data. But considering the author’s goal to identify spacing-hogging folders, this design makes sense.
The files are listed in an alternating colored table, allowing better visibility. The checkbox option gives its user the ability to delete multiple files.
The one-page drives layout is simple and easy to understand. The developer has done a good job picking out these icons (you may find the source in the About page).
Usability
The application’s usability is very much dependent on your need for the functions. If you are constantly running into issues with your storage space but was never able to identify the source, this will be your saviour.
The application is fairly easy to use. When loaded, you will be asked for the folder to be scanned. Following that you can narrow down to specific folders by selecting them. And to get back to the root directory, simply click on Scan folder.
The ability to view file sizes in the Files tab is most relevant to me as I can now identify which file is taking up the most space, and if needed, I can delete them accordingly.
Features
- Scan directories and list storage size for both folders and files
- List files with file size and the ability to delete them
- Easy-to-understand listing of storage space used for the drives in your device
- Ability to exclude folders for scanning
Pros
- Easy to install, easy to use.
- Fast loading and scanning
- Great way of keeping track of your device’s storage without going through much fuss
Cons
There isn’t much to critique as the application did what it had planned to do, and it did so quite efficiently.
Should I get it?
As we had stated earlier, this application is very useful for those that needed to find out where they have spent their storage space on the device. For those that doesn’t have such problems, this may be a good utility to keep around just in case you start having storage issues.
