Update 2/11/2009:Â BREAKING NEWS! Yes, 2~3MB of memory is worth that attention.
After several test, we came to a conclusion with two significant benefits for using your USB connection as a Mass Storage than using ActiveSync. They are easy and faster file transfer, and lower memory usage. The one disadvantage that stood out during the test is the inability to use MyMobiler, hence unable to take screenshots. Breakdown as below: Benefit of using Mass Storage:
- Faster File Transfer – rather than waiting for ActiveSync to connect before access your Mobile Device, setting the USB Connection Mode to Mass Storage allows quicker connection and therefore faster file transfer.
- Lower Memory – with the test that we have performed, using Mass Storage shows a reduction in device memory used by around 2 to 3 MB.
Disadvantage of using Mass Storage:
- Not able to utilize tools that uses ActiveSync, such as MyMobiler where one can take screenshots of the device screen.
There is a way for you to utilize your Samsung mobile device(s) to replace the USB drive that you kept losing. All you need is a Samsung USB cable to connect between the PC and your Samsung mobile device(s). Â Objective
Use Omnia as a mass storage via USB cable. Requirement
PC, Omnia or Epix USB cable. Settings
1. Start > Setting > Connections tap > USB connection Mode Â
4. You can copy & paste of drag & drop files like using USB memory. Note : When you set it to Mass storage instead of ActiveSync, ActiveSync will stop working. In addition, you cannot browse files on My Storage with File Explorer while the connection is established. With 8GB or 16GB of internal storage, plus anymore that you have added through microSD card, you should be able to load up a wide variety of files and carry them around on your Samsung Omnia or Samsung Epix. Now your phone might truly become everything that you needed!
