Utilizing the Internet on your BlackJack II without a Data Plan

This is a great tip for those of you who aren’t subscribed to a unlimited data plan or wish to save usage on a limited plan.

First, you need to install Microsoft ActiveSync if you haven’t already. You can get it here. If you have a 3rd party firewall installed, you may run into difficulties. I’ve found that Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall conflicts with activesync and thus difficulties arise with internet access on the phone, but COMODO Firewall and the default Windows Firewall work perfectly with activesync and the internet.

1. From the home screen, press the left soft key button for Start.

2. Select Internet Explorer and open it.

3. Press the right soft key for Menu, and navigate to Tools, then Options.

4. In the Connections Menu, scroll down to Select network and press the left and right keys to select from the given values, or press the middle scrollwheel button to see all available choices.

5. Select Work and press done to save your settings.

If using the built-in email functionality of Windows Mobile 6, you can change the account settings to manually send and receive. This is great if you receive a lot of emails during the day, you can connect your phone to a computer via USB and download all your emails. You can reply or compose emails on your BlackJack throughout the day, and connect it to a computer when you wish to send/receive them all at once, all without using a data plan.
